Dr. Sumit Firke

Dr. Sumit Firke has performed over 1,000 tooth extractions including complex surgical wisdom tooth removals at Tulip Dental. His Fellowship in Oral Implantology gives him the surgical training for impacted and horizontally positioned wisdom teeth that many general dentists refer out — handled here in-clinic, same day.

His approach to wisdom tooth removal is systematic: proper OPG X-ray assessment to understand root position and impaction angle, adequate anaesthesia so the procedure is genuinely painless, and clear post-operative instructions so recovery is smooth and predictable.

"The longer an impacted wisdom tooth stays, the more complicated the removal becomes — and the more likely it is to damage the tooth next to it. Most wisdom tooth removals are simpler than patients expect. The fear is almost always worse than the procedure."— Dr. Sumit Firke, BDS · Fellowship in Oral Implantology

Why Do Wisdom Teeth Cause Problems?

When Wisdom Teeth Need to Come Out

Wisdom teeth — the third molars — typically erupt between ages 17–25. Most adults do not have enough space in their jaw for these teeth to emerge fully. When a wisdom tooth becomes impacted (stuck under the gum or against the adjacent tooth), it causes pain, pressure, infection, and often decay in the tooth next to it.

An impacted wisdom tooth left in place does not resolve on its own. It becomes progressively more difficult to remove as the roots continue to develop and bone density increases with age. The best time to remove a problematic wisdom tooth is as soon as it starts causing symptoms — not years later when the roots are fully formed and the removal is more complex.

01

OPG X-Ray Assessment

A full-mouth OPG (panoramic) X-ray shows the exact position of the wisdom tooth, root length, proximity to the nerve, and the degree of impaction. This is the essential step before any surgical extraction — it allows Dr. Firke to plan the procedure with complete information.

02

Local Anaesthesia

Adequate anaesthesia is the difference between a comfortable procedure and an unpleasant one. Dr. Firke administers the injection slowly, allows full onset time, and does not proceed until the area is completely numb. Most patients describe feeling only pressure, not pain.

03

Extraction (Simple or Surgical)

Simple wisdom teeth: loosened with dental elevators and removed intact. Surgical (impacted) wisdom teeth: a small incision in the gum allows access; the tooth may be sectioned into pieces for easier removal. The socket is cleaned and sutured if needed. Procedure time: 15–45 minutes depending on complexity.

04

Post-Operative Care

Gauze packing for 30–45 minutes. Ice pack instructions for the first day. Prescription for pain relief and antibiotics if indicated. Written post-operative instructions. Most patients are comfortable within 24–48 hours. Swelling peaks at day 2 and resolves by day 5.

FAQ

Wisdom Tooth Questions Answered

Questions about your wisdom tooth? Dr. Firke answers on WhatsApp.

Is wisdom tooth removal painful? +
Under local anaesthesia, the removal itself is painless. You will feel pressure and movement — but not pain. Dr. Firke waits for full anaesthetic onset before starting and uses adequate volumes of anaesthetic for surgical cases. Post-operative soreness is managed with standard pain medication — most patients are comfortable within 24–48 hours.
How long is recovery after wisdom tooth removal? +
Simple extractions: most patients resume normal activities the next day. Surgical extractions: mild discomfort for 2–3 days, soft food diet for 5–7 days, swelling peaks at day 2 and subsides by day 5. Sutures (if placed) are removed at day 7. Most patients return to work within 1–2 days.
How much does wisdom tooth removal cost in Dombivli? +
Simple wisdom tooth removal book a free consultation for your personalised quote. Surgical removal of an impacted wisdom tooth book a free consultation for your personalised quote. Complex horizontal or deeply impacted cases book a free consultation for your personalised quote. An OPG X-ray (ask us for a transparent, itemised quote) is required for surgical assessment if not already available. Exact pricing is given after reviewing your X-ray.
Do all wisdom teeth need to be removed? +
No — only wisdom teeth that are causing problems or are likely to cause problems. Wisdom teeth that erupt fully, are properly positioned, can be cleaned easily, and are not causing adjacent tooth decay or crowding can be left in place. Dr. Firke will assess each wisdom tooth individually and advise honestly — he will not recommend removal unless there is a clear reason.
Can I eat before wisdom tooth removal? +
Yes — local anaesthesia wisdom tooth removal does not require fasting. Eat a normal meal beforehand (numbing the jaw makes eating difficult for 2–3 hours after). Arrange for someone to drive you if you prefer, although most patients drive themselves for simple extractions.
